Fast fashion movement that began in the early 1990s has had terrifying effects on our environment. Cheaply produced garments end up in the landfills after just a few wears. As a professional organizer, I saw firsthand the volume of clothing my clients get rid of at every session. The other aspect of “fast fashion” is the huge number of sample production waste that is created from ever changing trends and constant need to produce more. Thus, the idea was born to reuse the discarded, damaged, and unwearable garments and fabric remnants as well as vintage finds to create a line of classic style clothing that is unique and environmentally friendly. Upcycle and recycle movement has been on the rise in the past few years. As the number of environmentally conscientious consumers grew, I decided to add my vision of vintage inspired fashion from 1920 to 1960 into the world. Sustainability and low waste are at the heart of my designs. “Reimagine, Recycle, Reuse” has become the motto of Ambiente, which means environment in Spanish, focusing on reusing existing textiles rather than encouraging more environmentally harmful production.
